Artist's Comments

‘Gorgon’ derives from the Greek word gorgós, meaning ‘dreadful’, and is used to describe a female monster. Medusa is probably the most notorious gorgon from Ancient Greek myth. Armed with hair made of snakes and a horrifying gaze that turned those who beheld it to stone, she is dangerous to the highest degree.

Medusa symbolizes the sexuality, intelligence and power of women. Yet the alluring curves of her physicality hide a danger within. The myth teaches us not to judge anything or anyone by appearances.

In this image Medusa’s eyes remain in shadow, giving us a brief chance to look upon her.

Wonderful piece - I love the whole composition and the overall effect that you've captured.

I like both versions... But this one is still very beautiful!
Awesome work on both Gorgons! ^_^

Be careful whose toes you step on today because they might be connected to the foot that kicks your ass tomorrow.

All it takes is one bad day to reduce the sanest man alive to lunacy. That's how far the world is from where I am. Just one bad day!!

Insanely good. The shapes, the atmosphere, the way the snake goes into the frame as he does.. Whaw. :)

This looks great, I love the positioning of the snake and how it breaks the panel of the main image.

Very hot! I love the shadows you created. It looks insanely realistic. The snake seems alive and moving; I can practically imagine how it would feel. The anatomy is perfect! Totally faved!
And Medusa just rocks. Although maybe I'm biased with my feministic views - and femininity!

Totally underrated! Awesome work and very serious one, compared to what I usually see on deviantart. I hope you understand.

Thank you very much. I wanted her to be alluring, but not vulgar or erotic. She had to be an artistic nude.

And I agree Medusa is an awesome female character. Powerful women are always great.
